The Bourne UltimatumMatt Damon once again shows us how good Jason Bourne is in The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). In fact, he is so good, it is unbelievable how good he really is but this is beside the point since we do not care if Bourne is a believable character or what his real name is. It does not matter at all. What matters is the action, the stunts, the chases, and more of the same, perfectly orchestrated to one big race with one winner, Bourne, of course.

Now, if you dig all that then you will enjoy this third installment, even though I must say the often praised shaky camera cinematography has been annoying at times in this one, pay attention to the camera shakiness and judge for yourself.

The Departed (2006)

The Departed (2006)Martin Scorsese delivers with “The Departed” a superb thriller that leaves nothing to be desired. Scene of the crime: The Irish mafia against the FBI in present day Boston. Who wins? It wouldn’t be a Scorsese movie if it wouldn’t boil down to “organized crime doesn’t pay”.

I hear people say this is better than “Goodfellas“, is it? I’d say no, simply because it lacks the level of class “Goodfellas” had. “The Departed” is modern, it is crude, the story is secondary, it is merely about the good guys vs. the bad guys and that there are only losers and no winners in this whole circle of violence and corruption called “organized crime”.

The Brothers Grimm (2005)

Brothers Grimm (2005)“The Brothers Grimm” is a silly movie. It has a certain pythonesque quality that you need to be able to appreciate otherwise you will most likely think it’s a stupid movie. It isn’t. There are of course countless references to Grimm fairy tales and sometimes these are presented in a most absurd manner – something you have to expect from Terry Gilliam and it’s something he delivers.

At one point we suddenly cut to the two brothers Wilhem (Matt Damon) and Jacob Grimm (Heath Ledger) wearing bonnets while scrubbing the floor and making dinner for their italian torture master Cavaldi (Peter Stormare), easy to spot as a reference to “Cinderella” but also very… “pythonesque”.
