Serenity (2005)

Serenity (2005)I was so much looking forward to seeing Serenity and when I finally did I was so infuriated by the poor condition the cinema was in, broken air condition, tiny screen (UGC in Paris), muffled sound and a stench that lingers just at the threshold of your senses. The French subtitles did not help either.

So, what positive things can I say about this movie other than “I swallowed a bug” River Tam (Summer Glau)?
Summer Glau is hip. She is it, really, she is the new Space Odyssey Amazon Über-Ninja Terminator of the year. Having seen “Firefly” before, I was ready (and able as one can be given the circumstances) to dive right into the “verse” once more and join in on a bumpy ride together with the crew of good ole Serenity, primary buffer panels or not.

The Pink Panther Remake?

Did I already mention that 2006 is going to be the “Year of the Remakes, Prequels & Sequels”? No? Well, now I did.
The latest addition to the ever growing list of RP&S is “Pink Panther” where Steve Martin plays Inspector Clouseau and Kevin Kline stars as Chief Inspector Dreyfus. Now, Steve Martin is good but he is no Peter Sellers and he sucks at doing a French accent. Look at the trailer and tell me you do not wince in agony. This movie will blow (Joblo agrees, too, but I don’t even need to see a screening to know that, the trailer is enough).

Being a huge Peter Sellers fan, I enjoyed the original Pink Panther movies and I highly doubt this one will come even close to its predecessors. I even go so far as to say it is a complete and utter disgrace and not worth the celluloid it’s printed on! My advice? Watch the original! There’s a nice Pink Panther DVD box available for all your PP needs.

RP&S List 2006:
Predator 3, Ghostbusters, The Wild Bunch, RoboCop, Rocky 6, Rambo 4, He Man, X-Men 3, Superman Returns, Spiderman 3, Underworld Evolution, The Punisher 2, Ice Age 2, …

OK, I best calm myself now with a proper dose of random Chuck Norris facts.

New Header, dumping the ass

After much contemplating and endless hours of fiddling around with zillions of stockart and trying out a gazillion of ideas and whatnot I finally dumped the “hama ass” in favor of a new “Red Seat” header. During the process I got carried away a bit and the ihad.de turned out a little bit too bloody (see: horror header). There’s also a snowy version of the header but I dumped that one, too since the only time I like snow is when I go snowboarding. I certainly don’t want any snow on my website! Imagine the mess when it melts!
As such, the current “Red Seat Header V1″ is a temporary one until the real header comes around! Got an idea? Leave a comment!

Historical Britannia

Over at Stratics Fawne Goldynhart wrote “A Chesapeake History” and for those who played Ultima Online on the Chesapeake server the name Sillyhood might ring a bell. If you are near Empath Abbey, drop by our Guild House. Yes, it is still there and it’s been there now for more than 8 years. Incredible, isn’t it?

Excerpt:

People came from across the lands and seas to see the new City of Peace, including wealthy nobles who also purchased land and built homes there, along with many guilds, including the Sillyhood, who with their rather comical approach to the world, enlightens PaxLair to this day. The Sillyhood, as a guild, took its first breath in ’97, before many knew of this great new world. In the winter of ’97, a man named Ihad and 18 other members founded the Guild’s first home. It was with the Sillyhood that two entrepreneurs, Lords Xanthio and Judge Harm would erect the Duir, one of Yew’s most famous taverns, complete with a stage for actors and shops. The Duir and Paxlair would continue for years to work together for the community. The Duir, now much quieter, still stands, just north of the Yew Moongate.
